Best Family Destinations in Croatia

Explore Dubrovnik
Explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town of Dubrovnik, one of the world’s best-preserved medieval walled cities and, more recently, serving as the setting for Game of Thrones’ King’s Landing.

Formerly known as Ragusa, the city once thrived on trade and diplomacy. Its glistening limestone streets and distinctive architecture echo Venetian influences, while the local culture and cuisine carry unmistakable Ottoman flavours. Stroll the bustling Stradun, admire the iconic red rooftops and take in panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea from the city walls.

Take the cable car up Mount Srđ for spectacular views, or soak up the sun with a swim in the turquoise waters below. Dubrovnik is a highlight of our Dubrovnik and Croatian Islands Adventure, where families enjoy daily activities like swimming, kayaking and snorkelling in crystal-clear bays.

Discover the Elaphiti Islands
From secluded beaches and hidden coves to ancient monasteries and lush olive groves, the Elaphiti Islands offer a glimpse of Croatia at its most unspoilt. Scattered just northwest of Dubrovnik, the islands are a beautiful escape from the rush of city life.

On our Family Dubrovnik and Croatian Islands Adventure, you’ll discover Lopud by kayak, paddling past rocky cliffs and tranquil beaches before exploring the island’s car-free lanes, gardens and relaxed cafés.

What to Expect on a Family Holiday in Croatia

How active are Croatia family tours?
Our Croatia family holidays are graded from Relaxed to Moderate. 'Relaxed' trips feature chilled mornings and free days, while 'Moderate' adventures include more structured activities with built-in downtime. Whichever you choose, there's plenty of balance between exploration and relaxation. Take a look at your chosen itinerary to learn more about the fitness and activity levels recommended for each tour.

What’s the typical age of children on tour?
To ensure everyone gets the most from their experience, our Croatia family tours have a minimum age of seven years. On average, children are aged 12 on our Dubrovnik and Islands Adventure and 13 on our Croatian Active Adventure. The exact details may vary by departure, though our team may be able to help you find a departure with children of a similar age to your own.

How many families travel in a group?
Typically, each small group trip includes between three and five families, which offers the ideal size to meet other like-minded travellers without losing the personal touch. Kids can make friends to explore and play together, while parents can share their experiences with others who share their travel style.

What kind of accommodation is included?
On our Croatian Active Adventure, families stay in comfortable hotels with daily access to swimming either at the hotel or nearby beaches. On the Dubrovnik and Croatian Islands Adventure, you’ll stay in a friendly, locally-owned guesthouse on the beautiful car-free island of Lopud, just a short walk from the beach.

What is the food like on a Croatia family activity holiday?Croatian food is all about tradition, simplicity and the Mediterranean influence of its coastline. Fresh fish from the Adriatic, locally raised meats and seasonal vegetables are grilled over wood fires or slow-roasted under clay lids, then finished with the region’s signature olive oil.

Alongside the staples, Italian and Greek flavours shape much of the cuisine, with pastas, tomato-based sauces, hearty stews and specialties like black risotto made with cuttlefish ink. Whether you’re exploring Dalmatia’s coastline, Istria’s hill towns or the capital city of Zagreb, you’ll find authentic, hearty dishes that capture the essence of Croatian cooking.
