When is the best time to visit Nepal?
The best seasons to visit Nepal is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer clear skies, stable weather, and comfortable temperatures for hiking trails like Annapurna and Everest Base Camp.
Nepal's weather varies dramatically with altitude - the southern lowlands are hot and humid in summer with mild winters, while central hilly regions such as Kathmandu have warm summers and cool winters.
Higher in the Himalayas, it's cool even in summer, with very cold and snowy winters. The country experiences a monsoon season from June to September, bringing heavy rain, while spring and autumn offer pleasant, clear conditions.
Do I need to be very fit to join a walking tour in Nepal?
Explore’s tours in Nepal are designed to cater to a range of fitness levels. While some treks, such as Everest Base Camp, are more challenging due to the higher altitude, others are moderate and suitable for active travellers with good basic fitness. Each trip includes fitness grading to help you choose the right adventure. If you have any questions regarding the fitness levels required for our tours, please contact our team.
Is Nepal a good destination for solo travellers?
Yes. Our Nepal group tours are ideal for solo travellers. You'll join a small, friendly group of like-minded explorers and be led by experienced local tour leaders. Around 50% of travellers on Explore group tours do so solo, giving you a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
Is Nepal safe to visit?
Nepal is generally very safe for travellers. We design our tours with the safety of our customers firmly in mind. We do not use internal flights based on international safety standards, and instead travel overland for a safer and more enjoyable experience.
Crime rates in Nepal are generally low, though, as with any country, visitors should be vigilant against pickpocketing in crowded areas such as the capital city of Kathmandu. Travelling with an Explore group tour is a great way to ensure you remain safe as you explore this incredible country, and your local leader will be on hand to support you should you encounter any issues.
