Highlights of Kenya

Kenya: a wildlife lover's paradise

Embark on a remarkable African safari adventure, travelling on a 4x4 safari vehicle and getting up close to the Big Five: lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo. Witness the Great Wildebeest Migration in Kenya, where wildebeest and zebras arrive into Maasai Mara National Reserve. Spend a night in the heart of the Aberdare National Park at The Ark, an iconic lodge that overlooks a waterhole, so you don't miss any wildlife sightings.

These are just a few of the incredible experiences you'll get to live while on a safari trip in Kenya with us. Here are a few more highlights you can expect on our range of Kenya tours packages:

1. Maasai Mara National Reserve

Covering an area 1,500 square kilometres, the Maasai Mara hosts one of the largest concentrations of animals in the world. The annual Great Wildebeest Migration takes place between July to October, where over 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebras arrive in the Maasai Mara National Reserve from the Serengeti in neighbouring Tanzania. Yet even outside of the period of this magnificent migration, the renowned reserve continues to offer exceptional wildlife sightings year-round. On our Highlights of Kenya trip you'll get to enjoy morning and afternoon game drives with an expert wildlife guide who knows where all the prime locations are, guaranteeing close up wildlife encounters.

2. Lake Nakuru National Park

Located in the Great Rift Valley and surrounded by grasslands lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park. A prime game-viewing destination, the national park hosts a variety of bird species and wildlife and is best known for its flamingos who nest along the shores and the protected white and endangered black rhinos. Enjoy a full day on safari at Nakuru National Park on our Upgraded – Highlights of Kenya tour, where you'll head out for the morning and in the evening on 4x4 safari vehicles accompanied by an expert safari guide, who will take you to see both white and the endangered black rhinos. Whilst on safari you'll also spot herds of buffalos, zebras and giraffes, as well as possibly witnessing flocks of pink flamingos.

3. Aberdare National Park

A protected area in the Aberdare Mountain Range, this picturesque park composed of forest mountains and savannah grasslands provides a habitat for elephants, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos, warthogs and bushbucks among others. The Aberdare National Park offers a unique safari experience in spectacular scenery. Head into the Aberdare Mountain range on our Highlights of Kenya & Tsavo Extension trip where you'll spend the night at an unusual safari lodge called The Ark, featuring floodlit waterholes with four viewing decks to provide superb game viewing from the comfort of the lodge.

4. Tsavo National Park

Named the biggest and oldest Park in Kenya and covering an area of almost 14,000km², Tsavo National Park offers a wild and remote safari experience. The park forms the largest protected area in Kenya and is home to most of the larger mammals: elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard and hippo and has an incredible bird life with more than 500 species of birds being recorded in this park. Tsavo National Park is well worth the visit – take it all in on one of our Kenya tour packages, such as our Upgraded - Highlights of Kenya & Tsavo tour or Highlights of Kenya & Tsavo Extension tour.

Kenya: frequently asked questions

Is Kenya good for solo travel?
If you're travelling solo, our Kenya small group tours are a great way to travel and experience an exhilarating African safari and travel destination. Our small group tours are popular with couples, families and single travellers alike, so you'll be in good company and bound to make new friends during your trip. Furthermore, all of our tours are under the guidance of one of our handpicked tour leaders. They will show you all of the must-see sights of Kenya, as well as some of the lesser-known hidden gems for an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime safari trip.

When is the best time to visit Kenya?
One of the best times to visit Kenya is between July to October. During this time you’ll experience one of the best highlights of the year: the remarkable Great Wildebeest Migration, where herds of wildebeest and zebra arrive into Maasai Mara Game Reserve. There's no doubting that Maasai Mara is one of the best African safari destinations for spotting the Big Five and more, either.

However, Kenya’s allure extends beyond this mass migration season. The months of January to March and June to October present optimal game-viewing conditions across various national parks and reserves, as they’re marked by dry weather and clear skies. Alternatively, if you’re keen to go birdwatching in Kenya, the months of November to April bring migratory species to the forefront. Overall, Kenya is considered a great year-round safari destination and offers phenomenal wildlife sightings whatever time you choose to visit.
