Climate change

Current IPCC advice tells us that, by 2030, we need to cut global carbon emissions to at least 55% below what they were in 2017, to keep the planet within 1.5 degrees of warming. As an adventure travel company, reliant on customers flying around the world, we are fully aware of the responsibility of the tourism industry in climate change and the changes that must happen.

In January 2020 Explore declared a climate emergency, standing alongside a collective of travel companies we will come together to find solutions. We have publicly accepted our responsibility around climate change, we offer complete transparency around our strategies and we are committed to driving change.

We have a new comprehensive climate action plan; we are actively reducing our carbon footprint in our office and overseas through our supply chain, we are investing in reforestation, we continue to protect existing ancient rainforest with our partners Cool Earth and finally we will offset the residual carbon through ClimateCare, the highest ranked B Corp in the UK.

Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism

We are proud to announce that our parent company, Hotelplan, has become a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. We, along with our partner brands within the Hotelplan Group, are committed to a decade of climate action in tourism as part of the Declaration.

Climate action plan

We've declared a climate emergency, and now is the time to act. Read our climate action plan, which details our commitments to measure, reduce and mitigate our impact on the environment.

Carbon neutral travel

We’re carbon offsetting all trips booked with us from 1 January 2020. We recognise it’s not perfect, but believe that carbon offsetting is the most effective way of addressing carbon emissions in the short-to-medium term.

By working with ClimateCare, a Gold Standard provider, we will offset the transport, accommodation and flights booked with us. This is part of a bigger project to reduce carbon, as part of our long-standing commitment to sustainable travel.

Not booking flights with us? Offset your emissions with ClimateCare

If you book a tour with us and choose to find your own flights, we'll offset the land-only part of your trip. To offset the flights that you book yourself you can do so using ClimateCare's handy carbon calculator.
